Betrayal in Three Acts
Spring 2020
I’ve done so much with and about Shakespeare during my school career—not just college—that I’d be missing a significant chunk of my work if I didn’t put something Shakespeare-related in this portfolio. Enter “Betrayal in Three Acts,” my most recent—but likely not my last—time writing about the Englishman’s work. This paper was from a Shakespeare Seminar class, where we looked at all sorts of his works, comedies and tragedies alike. Lots of his writing focuses on betrayal and tragedy, but not all traitors are infamous. Some of them go down in the play’s stories as heroes or misguided souls. I decided to compare two stories of betrayal—Macbeth and Antony & Cleopatra—to try and see what small differences make tyrants of some traitors and tragedy of others.
The paper is below as a PDF called “Betrayal in Three Acts.”
