Just a quick thing...
Herro.
Full disclosure, this whole portfolio was made in and for my Writing Capstone class, the last class I have to take to earn a minor in Applied Writing Practices. Everything I've said and shared is true and my own, original work -unless I've given specific credit- it's just got an academic lens slapped on it.

About Me
Hi there. I'm Elizabeth.
I'ma shy person who never knows what to put in these kinds of things, so I'm going to be cheeky and just fill out the list of questions/blurb my professor offered. :P
P.S. Everything in the banner is also me. I didn't make the pens, but I love to use them.

Elizabeth has spent the past 3 years at DU, working on an Art degree with minors in both English and Applied Writing Practices. Just recently she got accepted into Morgridge College of Education, enrolled in their Dual-Degree program, and cannot wait to start working on her teaching Masters and Elementary Education certification next year!
She is the oldest of 4 siblings, and does love her three brothers, even if they are goobers. They are loud enough to make up for her quiet demeanor, and big enough to carry her where ever they please. She spends a lot of her free time with said goobers, but when they become too much you can find her playing videogames, reading or drawing.
Location: Broomfield, CO. Halfway between Boulder and Denver.
Current Gig: Full-time sibling, full-time student, part-time “administrative assistant” (front desk personnel, I always say.)
One word that best describes how you work: Bits.
Current mobile device: Samsung Galaxy J7 Star.
Current computer: HP Spectre. I can bend it backwards to pretend its paper to draw on!
What apps, software, or tools can’t you live without?
GIMP – Gnu Image Manipulation Program. Sure, people rave about photoshop, but why pay for a program that’s confusing? GIMP is free and I've had people convinced I used photoshop on a couple of my projects when I've just done GIMP. I rendered my portrait with it, I love it. I know so many little tips and tricks with it that make making pretty things a breeze.
SketchPal – FREE drawing program designed to be used with a digital pen that has layers, different brushes, select and manipulate, and feels like drawing on paper! It also doesn’t have premium or any of this “pay to unlock the full system,” which I love because my last drawing program decided to lock my favorite brushes – which were the free ones not even 2 months ago – behind the pay wall. Yes, I’m salty about it.
What’s your workspace setup like?
Depends on the day. I have 2 little storage thingies filled with other tools and nick-nacks, coloring implements and tech. One functions as a bookshelf for my school books. I have a big table, but about a third of it is filled with my computer, 2nd monitor, pens, rulers, and commonly used tools. Another half is often filled with things I need to do, because if I don’t see it odds are I’ll forget about it. So I’ve got this little space that’s clean, but then it gets the book I’m referencing placed on it. But I’m stubborn, so I’ll work in the mess or just refuse to clean up. But every once in a while I’ll get in a productive mood (usually I’m trying to avoid a project or smth) and clean it off and feel great.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut or life hack?
If you’re running out of steam on a project or homework or anything, switch tasks. Don’t force yourself, redirect the energy and give your brain time to recharge on that subject. Sometimes, the switch can be to go play a game or browse the internet, maybe even snacks. But don’t force yourself to stay on a project you’ve lost interest in temporarily. Your brain knows its limits, be nice to it and it’ll be nice to you.
What’s your favorite to-do list manager?
My sticky note pad. I turn it sideways and write out all my tasks, then cross them off as I go. Then I’ll fold the page over and use the backside, then rip it off and start again.
I have a blank calendar I write projects and long-term projects in, but I prefer the sticky pad. I put real-life jobs on it too.
What do you write with?
Word. I don’t like writing on paper cuz then I have to type it later. But I do notes with my collection of colored pens.
What do you listen to while you work?
Videos, streams, music. I like rock, alt rock, pop, indie, instrumental, some older songs and probably many other genres that I don’t know the name of.
Do you use an e-reader or do you prefer paper books?
I don’t use an e-reader, but I do like to read online. Short stories or stories being shared chapter by chapter, just off my computer or phone. But if I’m gonna read a book it’s a paper book, because then I can read it as I’m trying to fall asleep.
What’s your sleep routine like?
On a great day, if the stars align, 10-9. But my brothers like to wake me up so usually I’m up at 7, and I like to stay up late so usually its close to midnight before I’m actually trying to sleep. I’ve had a couple bad days recently where I haven’t been able to fall asleep till 2 or 3, and then wake up at 7 -by my body’s own choice, mind you.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
It’s not about how often you fall, it’s how many times you get back up again that defines you.
Is there anything else you want to add about your writing life?
I wish I had the drive to write more personal stuff, at any time I’ve got 4+ worlds bouncing around my head, prime subjects to make stories of but it’s so much more fun to figure out the next piece of the timeline or polish up an old event than write.
